About
St. Kizito Children’s Programme (St. Kizito) is a community-based response to the needs of orphans and vulnerable children (OVC). SKCP operates as a movement and is currently active in a number of disadvantaged communities in and around Cape Town.
The movement is a response to the Church’s call to reach out to those in need and forms part of the Pastoral Outreach of the Archdiocese of Cape Town. St. Kizito establishes groups of volunteers at Catholic Parishes in target communities, and these Parish Groups identify orphans and vulnerable children in their communities and respond to their needs. The Parish Groups receive training and on-going mentoring and support from the St Kizito office.
Although an outreach of the Catholic Church, St. Kizito embraces children from all sectors of the community, irrespective of their religious affiliation
Pope Francis calls us to be missionary disciples. As St. Kizito Members we not only represent our group, we also become representatives of Christ. Our interaction with those we help is in itself an act of love. This is both a huge honour and responsibility that falls upon us. We become the hands called by Christ to serve, the hearts called to love, and the minds that are constantly reflecting ways to love God and to love our neighbour.
All of us who are baptised are missionary disciples. We are called to become a living Gospel in the world.”
Pope Francis
Our vision is to see families healed, children fed, and communities more connected and loved.
In our endeavours, we aim to see a rise in community-based responses to orphans and vulnerable children across Africa. We hope for the physical, emotional, intellectual, psychological, and spiritual needs of vulnerable children, especially those affected and infected by HIV/Aids, to be fully met.
